Introduction
I've been swimming in a sea of messages lately, all asking the same question: "Hey, can you give me a trend to boost my growth?"
And truth be told, their somewhat awkward yet insistent request hits the mark: trendy audios, my friend, are the very heartbeat of Instagram Reels. Choosing the right audio for your Reel isn't just about sharing sound – it's a way to express your values, tell a story, set a mood, (going viral?). It's a form of communication in itself, intricately woven into the Reel experience.
But mastering the art of trendy audios? Well, that's where the real problems happens.
Welcome to edition #34 of the Art Missive where I’ll take you on a journey through the enchanting and dangerous realm of trendy audios.
A fisherman story 🎣
Here's the deal: Imagine you're an Instagram artist, casting a net to catch as many followers as you can. Your net? Your Reel, designed to grab attention like a fisherman's net catches fish. And yep, those "fish" are viewers you want as followers.
Now, I'm vegan, but this analogy works wonders! 😂
In this context, think of trends as the river that's teeming with those fish. The larger the river, the more fish it carries. Same goes for trends. To catch these splendid, plentiful fish, you want to cast your net into this river early on. The sooner you set up your net, the more fish you'll catch. In other words, the earlier you hop onto a trend, the broader your reach.
In closing this vivid metaphor, a trend is your path to introduce your art to an untapped audience. It’s why trendy audios are game-changers for community growth! Reels without trends? It's like fishing in a pond when a thriving river of possibilities runs close by!
How to find trendy audio
There are three ways to spot them:
Dive into your feed and keep an eye out! Spend time every day researching new trends right there on your feed. The trends you absolutely can't afford to miss will appear repeatedly in your Reel feed, used by multiple creators.
Pop culture: Often, the release of big video games, movies, or series spills over onto Instagram and TikTok with trendy audios. Keep an eye out for these cultural releases and hop on the associated tunes ASAP.
Follow specialized Instagram marketing accounts.
Unveiling the pitfall
Now that you're equipped with this knowledge, there is still one question : why does it rarely work out? Why does using a super popular audio that's everywhere, or even one I've recommended, fall flat almost everytime ? (Even when you ride the trend early.)
The answer is simple: Your net isn't strong enough.
Think back to our fishing metaphor. The net that captures the fish (aka the viewers) is your Reel. If your Reel isn't optimized enough, viewers will just swim past it, avoiding the net altogether.
And that, my friend, is the trend trap. We chase after the biggest trends (the rivers) while neglecting our content creation and Reel optimization (the fishing nets).
Using trends in this manner is like pouring a lot of water into a leaky bucket – it's a quick fix that doesn't hold water.
Paving the path forward
It's not rocket science – it's about becoming a smarter fisherman with a better net and a deep understanding of the fish. Logical, right?
In other words, you need to:
Develop a strategic plan to reach your target audience. Know your audience's habits, so you can fish in the right rivers and use the right bait.
Enhance your content and interactions, improving the quality of your content (aka your net), by focus on the three main pillars of content creation.
Embrace consistency for growth. Just like fishing, Instagram demands patience and consitancy to yield results.
Voilà, that's all from me, see you next week! 😈
